ENERGIZER!

May 21, 2009

Over the past 2 weeks our class has been working with Franziska and Josh from Arts Umbrella. Using a web cam, we took hundreds of pictures using two different programs. Motion Sequence and Multiple Exposure. Haley and I used Motion Sequence for this particular photo. It is a picture of a broken battery charger. INTENCE! Once I put a non-rechargable battery in the charger and it sort of… BOOM!… Actually, I did that twice. He he… Woops!

In Motion Sequence there many different grids you can use. For this picture we used 4 by 1 and made the border really big to create this… Masterpiece???

I really like this picture because of the border and the slant it is on. The thing I would change would probably be making sure that you can see the whole word because you can’t really read it.

Today our class went to Mark Isfeld to watch a performance put on my the grade 11 and 12’s and a grade 4 class from our school. It was…. Interesting.

What do you think of my photo?

P.S. Guess what? My blog has reached it’s goal of 1000 visits! Actually 1025!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

Happy New Year!

Many people made new year’s resolutions on new years, but I always forget.  This year, instead of figuring it out the day after, I…  (dramatic pause) …  (another dramatic pause) …  I still have no idea!

I went to the new blog, Bringing Us Together, and saw the latest post about new year’s resolutions for a better planet.  Lately, I have been trying to be more environmentally friendly, (even though I am using a main energy sucker right now!) this year I am going to hit it full force!  Starting with…with….umm..  Stuck again!  I guess I am still recovering from the holiday and am not quite back into an everyday routine.

(Lots of thinking later…)  I will start small.  Very small.  A little recycling here, some turned off taps there.  Easy things.  I will also try to encourage other people to join with me in this courageous act of kindness to our earth we like to call home.

Will you join with me?  Or is your resolution different, bigger, bolder!  I wonder…

Have Time? READ THIS BOOK!

December 14, 2008

Okay, it is not an actual published book, but it was part of an art project that my class worked on.

The book is called “War and Peace” by Warren Peice.  To many, that title would come across as a sad story about war or the great depression, but thankfully, it isn’t!

It is about a couple, Sarah: A clueless air-head out in her own world, and Darren: A neat freak with a sparky sense of humour but very little patience.  In this book, they have to resolve their differences to keep this relationship.  Will they in time for their second honey moon, or will they go as far as court?  I am planning to write this story and I will post it on my blog so you will just have to wait!

Blast Off!

December 4, 2008

Wednesday was a very important date for division 16 because…

We spoke to astronaut Clayton Anderson!

We were last to ask our questions and I introduced our class to Diane, Susan (organizers), Dr.Anderson, and all of the other participating classes.  Our questions were about the kind of recycled water that they have in space and about their free time and what they liked to do.

He told us that the water they drink is purified from their urin, sweat, and condensation.  It is said that a glass of purified water from space is cleaner than a water from earth!  For our next question, he said that every morning they played name that song via satellite with mission control on earth.

What surprised me was that he was very laid back and funny!  He joked around when ever he got the chance.  He spat a raspberry at us!

I thought the most interesting fact was that when they go on a space walk they have a cuff check list that ties on their wrist so they don’t forget anything.

To work well in space, I think you would need a good attitude and be able to be serious when needed but still be able to have fun while working!

Over all it went very well and even after that, frankly, I would not go into space.  I almost threw up on a bus!  Me + Rocket = BAD!  Very bad!

Dreams of Remembrance

November 14, 2008

On November 11 people all over Canada take the time to remember those who fought for our freedom.  On November 10, our school had a ceremony in which we showed our hands up for peace video that you can see on Huzzah.  We also had a few classes and students say poems and sing songs.

Our class showed our respect by making dream sequence paintings with water colour pencil crayons.

My painting shows a grandfather talking to his daughter about the war and all the lives that were lost.  In that dream bubble she sees Flanders Fields, filled with sadness the poppies blow on this cold night she imagines.

If you would like to see some more paintings like this one you can go to all of my classmates blogs.

Do you have Remembrance day?  Independence day?  Do you honor it in a different way?  Do you not have it where you live?  I would love to find out!

Water, water, water!  We all use to much of it!  Our class entered a contest to help people understand what will happen if this continues and what we can do to stop it.

Go to this link to watch my my My Water Wise psa!

I hope mine, and other videos you might see from other people in my class will inspire you to Be Water Wise and make better choices for a better future.  Thanks for watching!

Lights, Camera, Action!

November 4, 2008

“First we will tell you the safety rule.  Then we will show you the bad example, but don’t worry,  we will rewind time so they can make the right choice,”  said Nick.  He was introducing the Halloween safety skits that our class performed for the kindergartens, ones, twos, and threes.

Our group was in charge of providing a skit representing safety on the roads.  Our group was made up of Catie, Sam, Max, and I.  We came up with a message delivering skit.  At the beginning Max and I are off stage waiting for our cue.  At this time Catie (playing herself), runs back and forth on the street trick-or-treating with her grandmother (Sam).  Running across the road she drops a part of her costume.  This is our cue.

“Oh no!  Grandma, I dropped my pom-pom!”, Catie cries running into the street to pick it up.  Max and I are now approaching in our chair car .  “No!  Catie!  Look both ways!”  Right when the car (me and Max) is about to run into Catie, we rewind time and we start over.

Catie starts trick-or-treating again when she realizes that she dropped her pom-pom.  The moment she is about to run onto the road, she and her grandma say  “Stop!…Look!…Listen!…”  The car passes, Catie retrieves her pom-pom, we all bow, and exit the stage to our right.  After all the groups had performed their skits, there was a loud applause as the classes left.

I believe that our skits went very well.  It didn’t have lights or cameras but we had class that participated wonderfully!

Howlin’ Halloween Happening!

November 2, 2008

In the morning on the day of Halloween our school had a parade through the halls.  But, when the afternoon came,  Div.16 was participating in our ‘Howlin’ Halloween Happening!’.

We were put into groups and rotated through a number of activities.  The first one that our group went to was in the library on the computer.  Mrs.Smith had made a link to a number of Halloween games that she had found.  My favourite was the soccer game (which oddly had nothing to do with Halloween).

After that we rotated back to our classroom for French bingo.  We had made our own bingo cards earlier that morning.  I was the second bingo caller so I got a Halloween sticker.

Our third station was Ed Emberley drawing.  We drew Halloween silhouettes of witches, pumpkins, cats, spiders and many others from our drawing sheet.

Our fourth activity was a board game called ‘The Secret Door’.  that was my favourite station because the whole group had to work together to figure out what was behind…(Dramatic Pause)  The Secret Door.  Our last station was bowling for ghosts which I also enjoyed.  There were pins set up in the pod outside our class room that we tried to knock down with a lacrosse ball.

Over all, the out come of the ‘Howlin’ Halloween Happening!’ was two monster thumbs up!
