ENERGIZER!

May 21, 2009

Over the past 2 weeks our class has been working with Franziska and Josh from Arts Umbrella. Using a web cam, we took hundreds of pictures using two different programs. Motion Sequence and Multiple Exposure. Haley and I used Motion Sequence for this particular photo. It is a picture of a broken battery charger. INTENCE! Once I put a non-rechargable battery in the charger and it sort of… BOOM!… Actually, I did that twice. He he… Woops!

In Motion Sequence there many different grids you can use. For this picture we used 4 by 1 and made the border really big to create this… Masterpiece???

I really like this picture because of the border and the slant it is on. The thing I would change would probably be making sure that you can see the whole word because you can’t really read it.

Today our class went to Mark Isfeld to watch a performance put on my the grade 11 and 12’s and a grade 4 class from our school. It was…. Interesting.

What do you think of my photo?

P.S. Guess what? My blog has reached it’s goal of 1000 visits! Actually 1025!

Wow!

April 5, 2009

What a survey!

I never imagined having so many responses after having my blogging survey up for 3 days. (I used survey monkey and when you use that you can analyze results) I received a comment from Sue Waters saying she really liked my survey. (And Haley’s!) She has advised me to get the results and post them on my blog so everyone will know the popularity’s of blogging and maybe even some things that they can improve on there own blogs. I have decided that I will wait one week, and then I will gather the results. (I can feel the tension building already!)

Come to my blog on Tuesday, April 14, and they should posted!

I can’t wait!

What Do You Think?

April 2, 2009

Sue Waters is holding a competition!

On her blog she wrote post with topics for posts that the readers of her blog can write. She also said that the 4 best posts will win a 12 month Edublog subscription!

I decided to do option number one. That was this particular topic:

“Your own choice of topic but must include embedded media, created by the student or class, such as a SlideShare, video, comic strip, podcast, quiz, poll.  Here’s the chance to demonstrate how creative you can be!”

The embedded media I chose was a survey. A special survey. A survey about what you think of blogging. I want your honest opinion and if you do not have a blog, just reply what you think it would be like if you had a blog and were able to connect with people from around the world.

Okay… Here it is… My chance to find out more about blogging… What do you think?… It matters to me… This is supposed to be really dramatic… The SURVEY. (To rule them all)

Now that you have taken the survey… What do you think? Was it Interesting? Were the questions hard to answer? Easy? What was your favourite question? What do you think? There is only one person that can answer that question… In most situations, that person is you.

My Special Place

February 3, 2009

Our class visited Bringing us Together and saw the latest post. It was about our special place. Whoa having a flash back.

(A lot of flash-backing later…)

Now that that’s over. As I was saying. Special place. My flash back was about my special place. It is on a small island in British Columbia called Hornby Island.

We have a cabin across from the Whaling Station bay. I absolutely love it there and I feel so privileged to be able to visit Hornby so often.

I haven’t gotten to the best part yet! When we go out to the point to the right we jump of the reef and swim back to the shore line. In the summer of 2008, my friend Erin and I jumped of, took an under water camera and took pictures of each other.

Wait ! It gets even better! My brothers god sister and I went to the point to the left and went in what we call ‘The Whale’s mouth’. (It is this huge sand stone formation that looks like the mouth of a whale. It is probably as big as one too!) That is when we noticed…(Dramatic pause)…That you could climb on top of it!

Of course, we got to our feet and bolted to the side of the mouth. We found out we had to scale the side of the mouth. We grabbed tree roots and rocks and each others feet to get to the top. We had sand and dirt in between our bare toes, but believe me, it was SO worth it!

When we got to the top we just stood there. Speechless. It was like being at the top of a cliff! You could see the entire beach from there. It was breath taking.

When we finally came down we went back to the beach, got our lunch, went back and ate it on top of the mouth, our mouths wide open in astonishment. It was incredible.

Do you have a special place? Let me know!

P.S. I am thinking of customizing my banner image. Any ideas?=)

7 Random Facts Continued

February 1, 2009

The very first post on my blog was 7 random facts. Well, I have thought of some more. These ones are probably the most random of them all. More random than puppies in purple convertibles like this one over here. I call him Jiggly-Pants. Anyways, here they are.

  1. I like to eat yogurt with a fork.
  2. I once ate an apple that tasted like a tomato.
  3. Bananas make the inside of my mouth itchy.
  4. I donated 9 inches of my hair to children with cancer or going through chemotherapy.
  5. Both of my parents are working in schools. My dad is a principal and my mom is a grade 1 teacher.
  6. I saw the movie ‘Mamma Mia’ 3 times in theaters and then got the sing-along from my aunt for Christmas.
  7. I now have 14 random facts posted on my blog.

Like ‘em? Pretty Random eh? Well I hope these interesting facts gave you some smiles.

Do you have an interesting fact about yourself? If so, please leave it in a comment.

Hope you liked it!

Robotic-ness

January 29, 2009

The struggling life of a robot in show biz!

“The sun will come out, tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow..”

“That’s enough.” says Asimo. “Dexter, I’m just not feeling it, you will never in a billion years win this show!”

“I’ll be back for Robotican Idol again next year.”

“No. You won’t.”

“But I…”

“No.”

Dexter slowly heads to the door, dreams crushed but his hopes high. He was headed for his audition on the show, “So You Think You Can Do The Robot?”. At least he could look forward to that.

“Have you seen this show?” says one judge.

“Yeah. Kid, you don’t have the chops to be on this show.” says another.

“You just did the human, not the robot.” says the next. ”I’m sure you did your…Best?”

“It obviously wasn’t enough” says the second judge under her breath.

Dexter’s dreams are crushed once more but not before he heads to his last chance. The audition for “Robots Got Talent!”

“Do you honestly think that you could win this show? I mean, you lifted up the juice container, and put it in the trash. Whoop-Dee-Ding”, the first judge says sarcastically.

“It’s just not for you.” says the next.

Dexter’s hopes remained high for next year. Or until some new talent show comes up.

The next morning…

*Bring, bring*

“Hello?” Dexter says in a hopeful way.

“Hi, is this Dexter? I have dispatching information for you.” says the woman on the phone.

“Yes, yes?” Dexter replies anxiously.

“The Canadarm 2 has just been constructed and we need help. Are you a risk taker?”

“Some could say that…Err…Umm…Yeah, sure.”

“We need someone to strap to the end to work in space. Are you game?”

“This is my big break!” he says to himself “Yeah, I might be able to squeeze that in my tight schedule.” he comments trying to keep from bursting into tears of happiness. He didn’t want to rust.

“Dexter, you truly are a life saver! We all thank you so much!” the woman on the other end says quite relieved

“A life saver…” Dexter comments going into daydreaming montage mode. “Maybe there is hope after all…”

Top 10 Ways To Avoid Getting in Trouble

January 16, 2009

A few of my class mates have been making up ways to get in trouble. That isn’t what these are. They’re the opposite. These are the top 10 cheesiest, suck-up lines to get the his/her mind of what ever they were about punish you for.

  1. “I forgot the cookies I made for you at home.”
  2. “I was running to the store to buy you a present when a stray dog ran in front of me so I took him to the SPCA and visited with the other animals without homes or people to care for them.”
  3. “Since you are so angry right now, and you don’t want the burnt cookies, you could just look the other way so I can run.”
  4. “I lost the recipe.”
  5. “Whoops.”
  6. “Coming mother!”
  7. “Look at that tree. Fascinating.”
  8. “I burnt the cookies.”
  9. “Peanut butter, or chocolate chip?”
  10. “I thought the cookies I had made for you weren’t filled with enough love.”

You probably don’t want to be sent to the “naughty corner” like Lucy over here, so use these tips.

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses…

January 13, 2009

Useful excuses that is!

I decided to write some tips. These are 10 good quality excuses for why you were late for school so you never get stuck. I am not usually late but they are fun to make up. Enjoy!

I was late because…

  1. “I was helping put Humpty Dumpty together again.”
  2. “I squeezed the shampoo too hard and spent the whole time getting it back in.”
  3. “I was kidnapped by scientists who sent me into the future and I was top in all my classes at University so I think I can take things easier from now on.”
  4. “The government has sworn me to secrecy.”
  5. “I was finding Bo Peep’s sheep.
  6. “I was abducted by aliens who took me to their planet where we had tea and crumpets. I was there for three months but thankfully earth time it was only 20 minutes.”
  7. “There was a man falling out of a 6 story building so I swooped in and saved the day!”
  8. “I was making up an excuse.”
  9. “I couldn’t decide whether to have no-name, or brand-name cereal this morning.”
  10. “I was reading Sophie’s incredible blog.”

So next time you are late for school, refer to these tips so you don’t get stuck like this guy.

MOE

January 8, 2009

Poor, poor, Moe.

Moe. He was a small pink Danio fish. Very, small. Small enough to be eaten.

That is right! My poor innocent Moe…(dramatic pause)…(I use those a lot)…WAS EATEN! Eaten by the mean, bigger, leopard print Danio named Slick. Woh, there should be some really scary music right know.

We think that Moe dyed and then got eaten but that still means that Slick is a cannibal! I was feeding my fish and it was right after a 6:00 summer club swim practice so I was really tired and didn’t notice how many fish were in the tank. Later that morning my mom told me and I was really sad about the whole thing and the fact that I didn’t even see!

And, we got those new fish because our other two fish died!

I don’t think that I will be getting anymore fish.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

January 5, 2009

Happy New Year!

Many people made new year’s resolutions on new years, but I always forget.  This year, instead of figuring it out the day after, I…  (dramatic pause) …  (another dramatic pause) …  I still have no idea!

I went to the new blog, Bringing Us Together, and saw the latest post about new year’s resolutions for a better planet.  Lately, I have been trying to be more environmentally friendly, (even though I am using a main energy sucker right now!) this year I am going to hit it full force!  Starting with…with….umm..  Stuck again!  I guess I am still recovering from the holiday and am not quite back into an everyday routine.

(Lots of thinking later…)  I will start small.  Very small.  A little recycling here, some turned off taps there.  Easy things.  I will also try to encourage other people to join with me in this courageous act of kindness to our earth we like to call home.

Will you join with me?  Or is your resolution different, bigger, bolder!  I wonder…
